My name is Austin Morgan Rahimi. I am 3 1/2. I love movies, school, people, and places. I love to smile and laugh.
I don’t look different but you’ll notice fast that I dance alot, ride cool chairs, and am non-verbal. My condition is called Athetoid Cerbral Palsy and deaf. I also have a Cochlear Implant in my right ear.
I communicate with my eyes and can make choices between two objects. I will have a communication device by Fall 2011. As to what I hear, well, not sure. According to my report card, I’m making progress!
Despite the odds, there are no limits! “May every child walk with pride, for it is their right.”

My mom thinks I should tell my story too.
I was born at 39 1/2 weeks. I was dead at birth and put on oxygen for 24 hrs. I spent 30 days in the NICU and 10 months at Children’s Hospital. My diagnosis was Failure to Thrive…boy, I was so hungry. I would drink by bottle and urp it up all the time, took me forever to gain weight. While at Children’s they had to get their diagnosis so they, few months later inserted a g-tube so I could eat.
Knock on wood, I have been stablized and haven’t been to the Hospital inpatient for a few years…knock….knock..knock.
I do go weekly for physical and occupational therapy. Also, augmentive communication therapy. They are trying to figure out exactly what I can hear, etc and create a talking device so I can communicate.
Boy, when I do, watch out!
I just started rolling, and oh, what freedom to roll around and get into things…I love to open and shut doors, not by the door handle but by the bottom ledge.
I cannot sit or crawl so my mom carries me around. I do have a wheelchair, walker, and other adaptive equipment. Whether I can walk? They do not know. I am on the nursing waiver and it takes 5 to 7 years before being approved.
I do attent Preschool. Regular classroom of 15 kids. I love school and I think they love me. The reason mom can tell is I smile when I see the bus and smile when I come home. I have lots of people that assist me and it’s safe.
Did I tell you, I love movies. I like UP, Toy Story 1,2,3, Dinosaurs, Barney. I can make movie choices with my eyes, mom holds 2 movies up and whichever one I stare at the most, is the one that I get.

Yesterday, I went to OT (Occupational Therapy) and they found out I love icecream
And I went to physical therapy and am working on trying to scoot with my arms across the floor. It was hard work! Why my mom schedules them back to back, I don’t know?

Today is Sunday. Church day. I love riding the Church bus and meeting new people. We had a pizza party. My clothes were all messy but mom doesn’t mind, at least I’m trying to eat by mouth.

This weekend, was my first time to Chuckie Cheese. Can I say, what a blast!
I loved the bulldozer with Bob The Builder. Another thing, I was in my own little world, remember, I am deaf.
Then, we went to another birthday party and had more sugar!
After that, we went to Boulder, to hang out with my dad’s friends. We played RISK and I thought for sure the police would come. They were LOUD!!
We forgot to change our clocks so we went to church late. That’s okay, I still saw my friends and hang out with Grandma.
Then, my favorite, Golden Corral. I can eat corn on the cob. My parents stick a fork in each end, I gobble away. I feel terrible for the people that have to clean up after me. I’m a mess!
Then, we went to Walmart. Boy, do I love the toy section. Mom always puts things in the cart, then puts them back. I do not understand her.
Dad, tried to nap, but we weren’t tired. Church again! What a weekend!

I have school till noon. Augmentative therapy at 12:30pm, then, a nap.
Did I tell you, I love naps? Why? My mom makes my bed so fluffy, I can sleep all day. And also, because I have a g-tube feeding, I can eat and be full. One day, I will invent something and be famous!
My mom and dad took us to our grandparents house, while they went on a date. Usually, that’s what they do.
They met Juddson, who’s 23 and has the same condition as me. They were excited when they came home, networking is mom’s strength.
Juddson has an Echo communication device, which is what they want for me. This device allows me to push button and it talks for me. Mom can’t wait to talk to the therapist tomorrow. They say she’s the best!

I am behind on my blogging. My mom is almost done with CNA training. She has decided that, that’s not really her cup of tea. However, because of me, she will continue with the program…Yay!
I’ve enjoyed the last three weeks with Grandma. She comes to the house and brings lots of cool toys. She spends lots of quality time when I get home from school, making sure that I eat well and play well.
Grandma is an artist and I love painting and drawing. Do you like to be creative?
School is almost over, June that is. Preschool is a blast!!! I get to attend another year!
